Our history and events
The Caring Chorus was set up in 2013 with a view to creating a de-stressing weekly event for NHS staff and to promote community within the hospitals. Initially, we were sponsored financially by Gloucester NHS Trust and supported by the Gloucester Cathedral.
Over the years we have had to become more self-sufficient. We now fund our musical director through our choir subscriptions and the Cathedral continue their generous support with our rehearsal room – usually the wonderful Chapter House.
The choir has evolved over the last decade to become a Natural Voices Community Choir. We still have a heavy presence of NHS staff who attend but the choir is open to anyone who would like to join us.
Concerts and events
The Caring Chorus has limited performances per year. We try to have an annual concert and we are usually asked to help lead the congregational singing at Carols on the Hour in the Cathedral. We are at the end of the day an NHS and Cathedral community choir and we are respectful that NHS staff may have limited requests for days off.
We have regularly attended the “Big Sing” Choir Convention at St Georges Chapel in Bristol.
More recently, there has been an opportunity to attend a singing weekend, led by our choir mistress in the UK.
